(Concerns of Police Survivors) is celebrating its 30th Anniversary of service to the surviv- ing families of America's fallen law enforcement officers. C.O.P.S. was organized in 1984 with 110 individual members . Today C.O.P.S. membership is over 30,000 families . Members include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected coworkers of offi- cers killed in the line of duty, according to Federal govern- ment criteria. C.O.P.S. is governed by a national board of law enforcement survivors. The organization has more than 50 chapters nationwide that work with survivors at the grass-roots level. 1962 The year President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week on which May 15 falls as National Police Week 106 offcers were killed in the line of duty in 2013 .
