NAPED elects Tim Brown as board of directors president The National Association of Police Equipment Distributors (NAPED) elected Tim Brown, president of G.T. Distributors, as the board of direc- tors president for a one-year period. During the 31st NAPED Annual General Meeting at Daytona Beach, Fla., the seven-member board elected him to replace Eldon Griggs, VP of business development at GALLS, who will now serve on the BOD as past president. During an emotional acceptance speech at the NAPED banquet, Brown expressed his gratitude to his family and colleagues for bringing him "full circle" in his life and profession. Brown will now work with the board and membership to drive new members and bring greater value to its member- ship during his tenure. "I have been involved for a long time with NAPED and truly believe in the value of our networking to help companies achieve success in our rapidly changing marketplace," Brown commented. Virginia Governor 'Opts-In' to FirstNet On July 10, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe signed a letter accepting the FirstNet and AT&T; plan to deliver a wireless broadband network to the Commonwealth's public safety community. This will make Virginia the first state in the country to "opt- in" to FirstNet, according to a press announcement. "I am proud that Virginia is the first state in the nation to opt in to this program that will help our first responders communicate during times of emergency," said Governor McAuliffe in a statement. "While this is only the beginning of the process, I look forward to the continued coordinated efforts among Virginia, FirstNet, and AT&T; to provide public safety officials with inno- vative new technologies that will help them keep Virginians safe."
