COMPANY SPOTLIGHT INDUSTRY NEWS www.officer.com November 2014 Law Enforcement Technology 43 BJS proposes census of publicly funded forensic crime labs, 2014 The Bureau of Justice Statistics encourages comments until Nov. 17 on the proposed Census of Publicly Funded Forensic Crime Laboratories. The census will provide national statistics on federal, state, county and municipal publicly funded forensic crime labo- ratories that analyze physical evidence collected during criminal investigations. It will cover budgets, staffng levels, types of anal- yses performed, backlogs for forensic services and accreditations. According to BJS's request to the Offce of Management and Budget published in the Federal Register, written comments should address points such as: • Whether the proposed data collection is necessary, including whether the information will have practical utility. • The accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed information collection, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions. • Whether and how the quality, utility and clarity of the information to be collected can be enhanced. • The burden of the information collection on respondents, including the use of appropriate automated, electronic, mechanical, or other technological collection techniques. To learn more go to www.federalregister.gov Spillman Technologies Inc.… was tapped by the Cortland County Department of Emergency Response and Communications in New York for its records management system, computer-aided dispatch, jail manage- ment software, and mobile software. Spillman's integrated suite will help the county's only public safety answering point improve its dispatch effciency to all county emergency response agencies through advanced data sharing capabilities. SpotterRF… was selected by The National Park Service as a key compo- nent of its perimeter protection efforts at Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota. Mount Rushmore receives three million visitors each year; protecting park guests and preventing damage to the mountain sculpture is a top priority. The landmark's unique combination of wide open spaces and rough terrain make it a good ft for SpotterRF's wide area surveillance strengths, ruggedness, and durability. ESS (Eye Safety Systems)… announced a 13-state exclusive partnership with Evernham Sales Associates Inc. Evernham will be expanding the ESS dealer and distributor network to make military grade ballistic eyewear more accessible through sporting goods retail outlets in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Remington Arm Co. Inc.'s… event "Remington Great American Shoot" on Sept. 20, 2014 at Cypress Valley Shooting Preserve north of Austin, Tex. raised almost $1.2 million for the Special Forces Charitable Trust and several other military non-proft organizations benefting active duty service members and veterans. The winner, Matt Bissonnette, former Navy SEAL, raised the most money ($150,130) of all shooters in attendance and was awarded a customized 2014 Jeep Rubicon. Envisage Technologies Corp.… a software company for the public safety training and compli- ance industry, received a major investment led by Armory Capital, a family investment offce—terms were not disclosed. The new funding will also enable Envisage to accelerate its rollout of FirstForward, a secure professional learning network for frst responders. Envisage Technologies is the developer of the Acadis Readiness Suite, a training ecosystem platform focused on the needs of public safety. CellSense… announced an online store for ordering parts and acces- sories. Cellsense detects weapons and all cell phones, even if switched off or concealed in a body cavity. ForTheRecord… demonstrated its FALCON technology at the American Judges Association Conference in Las Vegas. The demonstration involved fve AAERT Certifed Transcribers working from home across the USA to produce a live transcript of Professor Fred Lederer's lecture "Court and Courtroom Technology in the Age of the Cloud and iPad." Averaging under 20 minutes per fve- minute job, the transcribers were able to transcribe and return their produced work from the comfort of their home offce. Streamlight Inc.… recently contributed more than $75,000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a not-for-proft organization with a mission to achieve prevention of and a cure for breast cancer. Since 2010, Streamlight has donated $525,000 to the organiza- tion from sales proceeds of its "pink" fashlight products. Leica Geosystems… announced a 12-month initiative to support the National Law Enforcement Offcers Memorial Fund. Beginning October 1st, one percent of the sale of all 3D laser scanners, multistations, total stations, GNSS instruments, unmanned aircraft systems, handheld distance measurement tools, software and other products to the law enforcement community will be donated to the Memorial Fund.
